Marketing with eBay's Reviews and Guides

By Doug Feiring

eBay Reviews and Guides Overview

By contributing a review, eBay members can rate and share
their opinions about such products as books, cell phones,
digital cameras, golf clubs, movies, music recordings and
video games. Guides enable eBay members to share their
expertise on any topic or category such as dorm room
decorating ideas, the best method to clean vinyl records,
classic GI Joe action figure buying guide, or essential
comic book storage tips.

Benefits of contributing a Review or Guide

O Establishes your Credibility.

You establish
your expert
credentials in
your particular
niche of interest
and build a
level of trust
among potential
bidders. Several
potential buyers
will likely visit
your Mylar
comic storage
bag listings
after reading
your informative
guide on
evaluating and
grading vintage
comic books.

O Increased Traffic to your Current eBay Listings.

Potentials bidders who would have never searched for your
particular merchandise might bid on your listings as a
result of reading your Review or Guide. How many college
students would have searched for and bid on your old-
fashioned fruit crate listings had they not gleaned the
idea from your dorm room decorating ideas guide?

O Your Review or Guide establishes trust and builds a
relationship with your potential bidders.

Readers of your article are pre-sold as you have already
begun the reciprocation and trust cycle by giving first,
through your expertise in your guide. When they visit
your listings, bidders will already know something about
you and may feel compelled to reciprocate with a bid, or
at least peruse your current listings.

Dedicating a small amount of time contributing a Review
or Guide to the eBay community can pay off handsomely in
the form of increased traffic to your auction listings
and increased bids. Your Reviews or Guides serve to
build trust and establish a relationship with potential
eBay customers, expose your auction listings to a wider
customer base, and build your credibility as a seller
and your image as an expert in your particular niche.
