CNET news has a list of 15 online image editing services highlighting and comparing significant features of each.  I’ve provided links to the free online photo editors below.

I’ve got admit that I haven’t used any of these.  I’m still partial to Paint.net (review) which is free and easy to use (both important characteristics for me).  However, from the comments on the original post, pixlr.com has got a lot of fans.

Post your thoughts about any of these in the comments section.

So, if you’re looking for an online photo editor to spruce up your eBay images, give one of these free services a try:

One of the things I had on my list of things to do last week was sign up for Auctiva and post a review on the free auction management service.

Over the weekend, some of Auctiva’s servers were infected with a Trojan Horse virus and was apparently infecting users computers with malware.

So, once again, procrastination pays off for me.  Looks like you will have to wait a while longer before I play around with Auctiva and post a review here.  I’ll stick with good old Template-O-Matic for a while longer.

Lately I’ve been using Paint.NET for my image editing software for my eBay listings, my blog, and the forthcoming second revision to my eBook, Best Match Made Simple. It’s a free download available at http://www.getpaint.net.

Not only do I find the price extremely attractive, I also enjoy the functionality I need without the complexity normally associated with image and photo editing software with similar features. I can crop, resize, convert file formats, add text, blur portions of the image I want to keep private, etc. It also provides support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of other useful and powerful tools.

As my wife is a semi-pro photographer, I have both Adobe Photoshop and Elements available to me to perform these functions. Of course they do them admirably, but I find the interface to these sophisticated programs complex and hard to use. Consequently, I’m often frustrated with the amount of time I waste trying to figure out how to do the simplest tasks such as adding a circle to an image in order to emphasize some aspect of that picture. I find accomplishing tasks that I commonly need for my eBay listings to be a snap in Paint.NET.

According the the project’s website, Paint.NET started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. Originally intended as a free replacement for the Microsoft Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple image and photo editor tool.

If you find most of the free image and photo editing software too weak for your needs and the sophisticated paid software too expensive and/or complex, I recommend the free download Paint.NET.

Minimum System Requirements:

- Windows XP (SP2 or later),
or Windows Vista,
or Windows Server (2003 SP1 or later)
- .NET Framework 2.0 or newer (.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 recommended)

- 256 MB of RAM (Recommended: 512 MB or more)
- 1024 x 768 screen resolution
- 200+ MB hard drive space
- 64-bit support requires a 64-bit CPU that is running a 64-bit version of Windows, and an additional 128 MB of RAM

I’ve spent the last couple of weeks fighting the flu and coding improvements to Template-O-Matic.com.  I’ve totally redone the templates that the site creates, improved the input form, and did some updates on the back-end.

I think you’ll like the results.  Check out the feedback from one of our users:

Hi Doug,

I just wanted to tell you that the new templates look great and I love the new title font!

Have you ever thought about adding more color choices for the templates, like green and pink?

Thanks again for all your help and for providing such an easy to use site for computer illiterates like me!

Tonya

I’ll work on adding more color combinations in the near future.  Oh, and remember you can create eBay templates at Template-O-Matic for free with no registration required.
