Your analysis is excellent but it ignores one important fact: many buyers do not search by keywords but browse entire categories. You did not analyze Best Match according to this practice, in other words, how does best match work when no keyword is used at all but buyer goes directly to an entire category and then browses page after page? How then is a category organized?

I have no idea why ebay is still pushing this flawed search method. As a buyer I automatically change to time ending soonest or other options.

Jason,
My best source for information on what is happening on the international eBay sites is the TameBay Blog. According to them, Best Match is live on the UK & French sites, and affects the auction style listings on the Italian site. My own research indicates that it's live on the eBay.ca site, but not the default on eBay Australia.

Best of luck,
Doug
