eBay sellers are reporting that the Sell Your Item form pops up with a warning informing the seller when their shipping and handling charges exceed the average amount for the category they are listing in - regardless of what that item may be or its weight relative to the other items in that category.

From the number of posts I’ve made about shipping and handling charges, you probably think that I charge an arm and a leg for shipping and handling.  I don’t — however, I do place a value on my time and recognize the expense involved with shipping materials.  Consequently I add a very modest and fair handling charge to cover the time and expense I expend when shipping an item sold on eBay.

I think everybody has this right and if the seller doesn’t like it or thinks my charges are unfair, they are certainly welcome to click the back button and bid on some other seller’s listing.

I even think eBay has this right, so I’m not ranting when I point out that eBay charges $4.87 to ship a mousepad via USPS ground or $6.80 to ship a mug.  It just my be hypocrisy on eBay’s to discourage or punish their sellers for doing the same.
