Purchasing seasonal inventory at end-of-season clearance sales can save you 75 to 80 percent off of regular retail prices.  Scoop up bargain priced beach and barbecue accessories when the stores are clearing their shelves for back-to-school inventories.  Stock up on Easter, Halloween, Christmas and other holiday items after the festivities.  Take advantage of discounted winter apparel in February.

Some things to consider:

  • Don’t buy inventory that’s too trendy or faddish.  This season’s hot fashion could easily be next year’s parachute pants.
  • Remember, you’ve got store your inventory until the next season rolls around.  Pick a storage location that’s odor-free.  Factor the rent of a commercial storage space into your margin if this becomes a requirement.

One Response to “Sourcing eBay Products: Buying Seasonal Inventory Off-Season”

I agree with buying at end-of season sales. I like to buy simple clothes – t-shirts, jeans etc that aren’t tied to this year’s fashion.

Another thing I like to do is shop in the northern hemisphere (I’m in Australia). Our winter is USA’s summer so USA stores are clearning their winter stock and Australian stores are clearing their summer stock. You need to factor in currency conversion and postage to make sure it will end up being a bargain for you.
